Pendleton Superintendent Kovach Resigns

On Monday evening, February 13, Pendleton Superintendent Andy Kovach resigned his position, citing personal reasons. The Pendleton School Board unanimously accepted his resignation, which is effective June 30.

Kovach said he submitted his resignation now to provide the district sufficient time to find a new leader before the 2017-18 school year.

“I will continue to lead the Pendleton School District through the spring and to give my best in serving its students. It has been an honor to have served as the Pendleton superintendent. This is a wonderful community, deeply committed to its schools with outstanding educators and great students,” Kovach said.

Debbie McBee, chair of the school board, thanked Kovach for his service. “Andy is a good man, loves his work and truly cares about children. We have appreciated his dedication to our district and wish him well as he pursues opportunities elsewhere,” McBee said.

Before coming to Pendleton in July 2016, Kovach worked as a teacher and administrator for 25 years in Crane, Nyssa and Ontario, and was the principal of Ontario High School for four years.

The Pendleton School Board will meet on February 20 to declare a superintendent vacancy and begin the superintendent search process.
