In Case of Emergency

Safety Procedures

The Pendleton School District considers the safety of its students and staff extremely important and a high priority throughout the District. The following procedures will assist parents in the event of a crisis situation. Please note that due to safety concerns, staff and students may be asked by law enforcement to turn off cell phones during a crisis situation. As such, the District will follow communication procedures outlined below to keep parents informed of the situation.

Evacuation Procedures

A school building evacuation may occur in the event of a fire, bomb threat or other safety threat in which it would be safer for students and staff to be out of the building. In the event that students and staff must evacuate a school building, the following procedures will be followed:

  • Police and emergency personnel are notified;
  • Staff calmly evacuate students to the designated off-campus location;
  • Parents are notified of evacuation and updated on situation – including student pickup location – through a School Messenger notification and mobile app push notification;
  • Information is posted on PSD website home page and Facebook page, and communicated via KUMA and KWHT radio stations.

Lockdown Procedures

A school building may go into lockdown when there is a safety threat on campus or nearby campus. A school is ordered into lockdown by either the district superintendent, building principal or law enforcement. In the event that students and staff must lockdown in a school building, the following procedures will be followed:

  • Police and emergency personnel are notified;
  • Staff calmly gather all students into classrooms and begin to lockdown classroom, keeping students away from doors and windows;
  • Parents are notified of evacuation and updated on situation – including student pickup location – through a School Messenger notification and mobile app push notification;
  • Information is posted on PSD website home page and Facebook page, and communicated via KUMA and KWHT radio stations.

Police will give the “all clear” when there no longer is a safety threat and the lockdown will be lifted.
