How does the PSD decide to close/delay school?
The decision to delay or close school during inclement weather conditions is made through a joint effort between district administrators and Mid Columbia Bus Company.
When weather forecasts indicate there will be snow or ice on Pendleton roadways, MidCo’s Location Manager starts driving bus routes in the early morning hours to determine if they will be safe for students and buses by the time routes begin. He contacts district personnel with a recommendation and a decision to delay or close is made. Notifications are then sent.
The decision to delay or close school is not taken lightly. MidCo and school officials factor in student safety both to and from their bus stops, as well as potential traffic issues on roadways. MidCo also weighs the risks of accidents and injuries to drivers and students during winter conditions. Student safety is the number one priority.
Snow routes could be put into effect in the event of freezing rain, snow and/or icy conditions.
|Normal Pick-Up/Drop Off Location||Snow Route Pick-Up/Drop-Off Location|
|SW 8th St. & SW Isaac||Walk down to SW 3rd & Isaac|
|SW 12th St. & Isaac||Walk down to SW 14th & Frazer|
Students will be dropped off at these same stops after school as long as the changes are in effect.
