Message from the Superintendent - Snow Make-Up Days Plan

snowflake

Hopefully, we are well past any further weather-related impacts to our school calendar.  After much thought and looking at all options available to us regarding the lost days due to snow, seniors last day of school will be Friday, May 31st and Graduation will be on Saturday, June 1st as originally planned.  Students in grades Kindergarten thru 11th will finish on Friday, June 7th.  Although the state has minimum requirements for student contact, they vary between grade levels.  Our students in grades K-8 are still well beyond the minimum requirement while our grade 9-11 and grade 12, which have different requirements will fall about 3 days short of the minimums.  We do have the ability to and will be exercising a waiver option.  Should you wonder, some of the factors in this decision Include, 1) we were unwilling to move graduation at this late date, 2) impact on the start to summer school programs, and 3) historically June “make-up” days have a high absentee rate.  Please feel free to contact me at chris.fritschatpendleton.k12.or.us or 541.276.6711 with questions or concerns.

Respectfully,

Chris Fritsch, Superintendent
