Ready or not, the 2019-2020 school year is here!
I have heard from a number of parents who are ready for their children to be back in school. We have been working since last June in preparation for the startup of school. Our first day of school is Tuesday, August 27th. If you have not already started, it is not too late to get students back into their school year routines, including getting adequate sleep each night. According to the National Sleep Foundation, children ages 6-13 should get 9-11 hours of sleep and teenagers, ages 14-17, should get from 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night.
Once rested, it is important for all of us to emphasize and support regular daily attendance. Developing good habits early in life produces a solid foundation for a healthy and quality life as a teen and adult. By middle and high school, poor attendance is the number one predictor for dropping out.
Lastly, a reminder to kinder parents that the PELC will be doing a “soft start” August 26th thru the 29th. Kindergarten students first full day of school will be Tuesday, September 3rd. First-grade students will also be having a “soft start” Tuesday, August 27th thru the 30th. Like kindergartners, the first full day of school for first graders will be Tuesday, September 3rd. Parents are encouraged to contact your child’s school if you have questions about “soft start.”
