Mendel graduated from Blue Mountain Community College with an Associate of Arts Transfer Degree in 2012 and completed her Bachelor of Science Degree from Eastern Oregon University in 2014, graduating with Magna Cum Laude Honors. She completed her student teaching at Washington Elementary during the 2013-2014 school year. Prior to accepting a full-time teaching position, Mendel was a substitute teacher, group leader at summer camp and a classroom volunteer at the Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 3rd Grade levels.

Mendel comes to the district from Rocky Heights Elementary School in Hermiston where she taught 1st Grade since 2015. While in Hermiston, she also served on the District Writing Committee.

When asked what made her want to work in Pendleton, Mendel said, “I have seen firsthand the amazing things that have happened here and are still happening every year.”

In her spare time, Deanna enjoys reading, a good cup of coffee and paddle boarding.
