Sanders came to Pendleton after working in the Newberg School District for two years and the Salem School District for one year. She was drawn back to eastern Oregon to be closer to her family. “I wanted to get back to the land of farming and ranching,” she said.

An accomplished athlete in high school and in college at Linn-Benton Community College, Sanders earned her Bachelor's degree in 2014 from Oregon State University. She also earned her Master’s degree in Exercise and Sport Science from OSU. In addition to PE and Health, Sam is certified to teach Adapted Physical Education.

Sanders was the JV Head Coach/Varsity Assistant for girls' basketball and JV Head Coach/Varsity Assistant for volleyball at Newberg High School for three years. In her spare time, she enjoys basketball, running, paddle boarding with her dog and helping her father with the Stanfield FFA Chapter.
