Melissa Smith, Culinary Arts Teacher, Pendleton High School
Smith comes to the district after owning and operating her own business for the last ten years. What started out as a single food cart at a select number of events over the course of a year turned into a restaurant, three food carts and a catering service. Prior to starting her own business, Smith had several years’ experience as a bookkeeper.
She has an Associate’s degree from Columbia Basin Community College and a Bachelor’s degree from Washington State University. Smith is currently teaching under a special teaching permit as she works towards her permanent credentials, as part of the alternate route to certification program.
Smith teaches PHS classes under the Hospitality and Tourism umbrella, which includes Culinary Arts, and she oversees the Food Truck program.
