September 2023 Staff in the Spotlight

The district is pleased to announce the September 2023 Staff in the Spotlight recipients. Every month, each of our schools honors a staff member at their building for going above and beyond their regular duties or for doing something special. Join us in celebrating these outstanding employees!

PELC Rachele Johnson – She is a school leader in every way.  Rachele is mentoring a new teacher, has a student teacher in her classroom, and is still one of the first to step up when help is needed.  A positive attitude and a student first mantra makes Rachele Johnson one of a kind at the PELC.  Many of us are honored to call Rachele both a co-worker and friend.  Students in Mrs. Johnson’s class are set up for success and love.
McKay Chance Norquist – Chance is being recognized for ‘stepping up” and taking on a new challenge.  He has a very challenging role this year at McKay, and he brings new meaning to the term “team player.”  He always has a positive attitude, and he encourages and helps all of us.  If gold medals were handed out, he would deserve one.  His willingness to help is appreciated so much.  We are lucky to have him at McKay.
Sherwood Kayla Frazier – Kayla wears many hats throughout the day.  She is the one who changes her schedule when we need help in other places.  She is there for the kids and makes herself available for those who need her.  She is an awesome co-worker.  She goes out of her way to support all students and their success.  She leads with a student first mindset.  She goes above and beyond to uphold the relationships with students she worked with the previous year and those who need a little extra love.  When she says she is going to do something, you can always count on her to show up.  Her love and support for students does not go unnoticed.  Thank you for loving students the way that you do.
Washington Chrissy Nelson – Chrissy was recognized for taking everything in stride and finding a positive in any situation.  Chrissy is new to Pendleton School District this year, and she is doing a great job with her new role as a special education teacher.  Chrissy is positive, hardworking, and a great addition to our school community.  Chrissy came to PSD from the IMESD, where she was the Family Success Coordinator for the Virtual Learning Academy and had other roles like State Data Reporting and Absentee Grant Manager. Outside of school, Chrissy can be found at livestock shows and doing anything supporting FFA and 4H programs.
Sunridge Fred Wolotira – Fred has been doing a great job in his new role as Dean of Students.  He gives the students such grace in speaking with them and handling tough situations.  His willingness to work with both students and staff, to come up with the best solution for all involved is greatly appreciated.  Go Broncs!
PHS Kaden Clark – Celebrating the dedication and passion of our incredible Travel and Leisure teacher, Kaden Clark, who selflessly gave up his Round-Up break to cater the prestigious 1910 Room at the Pendleton Round-Up.  This monumental feat wasn’t accomplished alone.  He inspired over 35 students to volunteer during their break, showcasing a spirit of community and unity.  Their collective effort was met with high praises, as the directors of the Round-Up hailed it as some of the best service and food they’ve received in years.  Cheers to Kaden and his unwavering commitment to PHS and the fantastic collaboration that left a lasting impression on the 1910 attendees!
Hawthorne/Homestead Tim Foster – Tim has hit the ground running to learn all the unique qualities of Hawthorne.  He has done an excellent job of multi-tasking between Hawthorne and PVLA.  He is teaching science during PBL also and doing a great job.  Hawthorne welcomes Mr. Foster.

Diana Van Epps – Diana does a great job managing, onboarding, and supporting our new and current staff as the new year kicks off.  Her years of experience and knowledge are an asset to PSD and the DO team.
Nixyáawii Community School Nicci Harrison – for her willingness to help new teachers and all the extra time she spends with students outside of the regular day.
