February 2019 Staff in the Spotlight

The district is pleased to announce the February 2019 Staff in the Spotlight recipients. Every month, each of our schools honors a staff member at their building for going above and beyond their regular duties or for doing something special. Join us in celebrating these outstanding employees!

PELC Maddy Naughton is recognized for always helping get iReady testing completed and her kindness and patience with students. She makes great connections with all students, works hard in classrooms and keeps the library/computer lab running smoothly.
McKay Jesse Lantz makes us feel blessed to have him as our custodian. He isn’t ‘just’ a custodian, he is a mentor, a student helper, the fixer of our amazing country school house and a tremendous friend and co-worker. Jesse cares about our staff and students in the same manner that people care about their own family. We are all very fortunate to work with him!
Sherwood Karen Ashbeck is honored this month for always being flexible with her schedule, kind and loving with all students and a positive light at Sherwood. We appreciate how much she puts students first.
Washington Jen DeGrofft has an amazing ability to make connections with others and meet the needs of ALL students. She challenges herself to learn more as an educator and makes learning exciting and engaging for children. Jen is an outstanding teacher and team member.
Sunridge Tim Cary is celebrated for being so positive and friendly! Always a team player, he helps out in open gym several times each week.  You are appreciated, Tim!
PHS Myrah Kwong makes the Special Education classroom a place where students & staff feel safe and cared for. Her individual student schedules maximize the use of staff and other resources, giving students the opportunity to succeed by building on their own strengths.
Nixya’awii Damian Totus is honored this month for his work with the Umatilla Language class. Damian also helps with drumming and cultural arts when needed.
Hawthorne/ Homestead Emily Williams does an amazing job with our students. She uses Conscious Discipline methods  in several different ways, not only in her class, but outside of the classroom as well.
