Congratulations On Your Retirement – Dave Curtis
Please help us celebrate and pay tribute to our retirees from the Pendleton School District.
Today, we congratulate Dave Curtis, a science teacher at SMS, working in the district for 33 years. Dave will miss the staff at SMS. They are a great group of people who are very supportive of each other and care about students. He will also miss getting to know a new group of students each year. Dave had an assignment called the leaf project for many years. One student got a new puppy and left her project out on the table. Her dog literally ate her “homework,” and he found the note from her mom in his desk after all these years explaining that the dog did, in fact, eat her homework. Dave always wears a tie to work. He is serious but likes to have fun. SMS used to have a lip sync contest for the students. The male staff had a group called “Staff Infection.” Dave dressed up in a long blonde wig, red, white and blue pants as a typical 70’s rocker. The next day after performing their gig in front of the students, the principal, Susan DeMarsh, saw him in the office and said: “Mr. Curtis, I’ve never seen that side of you before.” “Have to let your hair down and have fun with students,” he replied.
Dave’s words of wisdom: “Tell Me, I’ll forget. Teach Me, I’ll Remember. Involve Me, I’ll Learn.”
Thank you, Dave, for your commitment to the students of Pendleton School District. We wish you well on your next adventure.
