Congratulations On Your Retirement – John Scanlan
Please help us celebrate and pay tribute to our retirees from the Pendleton School District.
Today, we congratulate John Scanlan, an ELA teacher at Sunridge Middle School, working in the district for 24 years. John will miss his colleagues, the satisfaction of getting to Friday and telling jokes to students resulting in classic eye rolls. John’s greatest inspiration was a professor he had in college named Bill Potts, a James Joyce scholar, and a great teacher. He taught John that if you want to be a great teacher, make a lot of space in the room for students to talk and learn. Whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning.
John’s words of wisdom: “Never let anyone upset you on Friday. Savor every minute of it. Also, start putting money aside for retirement as early as possible.”
Thank you, John, for your commitment to the students of Pendleton School District. We wish you well on your next adventure.
